Sec 3 Physics formulaes Or keypoints sharing page

I decided to create this Sec 3 Physics formulaes Or keypoints sharing page on a few topics below for two of students who cant remember formulaes or keypoints discussed repeatedly. They do not have problem understanding the concepts during the lessons when the concepts are explained to them. However, the next time they come for lessons, they will cant remember the points and formulaes at all. 🙁

To me, this is merely a lack of revision. So i came up with this plan. Daily 5-15mins revision plan. Lets pray it yields results.

Hi Nisherl and Wan Kheng,

Please comment 5 or more keypoints/formulaes for the 5 topics below. Do each topic daily. This should only take you 5-15mins daily.

Topic 1: Turning effects of forces and pressure

Hint:

• Moments
• Centre of gravity
• Stability

Topic 2: Energy, work done and power

Hint:

• Energy conversion and conservation

Topic 3: Forces

Hint:

• Balanced and unbalanced forces
• Free body diagram
• Friction

Topic 4: Kinematics

Hint:

• Speed, velocity and acceleration
• Graphical analysis of motion
• Free fall

Topic 5: Physical quantities, measurements and units.

Hint:
• SI units
• Prefixes
• Scalars and vectors
• Measurement of length and time

  • Moment of force =FxD
    P=F/A
    Centre of gravity-a point where all weight acts on
    Stability-ability to return back to its original position after being pushed.
    Principle of moments-clockwise and anti clockwise moments must be equal .

    • Not bad! Good attempt. Do note that the distance for moment must be the distance in the direction of the force. Do be more accurate in your answering next few days. 🙂

  • Moment of force= F X D
    Principal of moment: Sum of clockwise moment about pivot is equal to sum of anti clockwise moment about pivot
    Centre of gravity is the point which it’s whole weight appears to act
    Stability of object is a measure of its ability to return to its original position after slightly displaced
    P= F/A

  • Topic 3
    F=ma
    When resultant force zero, object is balanced.
    Friction is a force going in the opposite direction .
    Newton’s first law -will stay at rest or uniform motion unless resultant force acts on it

  • W=F X S
    Ek= 1/2mv^2
    GPE=MGH
    P= E/T
    PRINCIPAL OF CONVERSATION ENERGY: Energy cannot ve created or destroyed but can be converted from one form to another

  • Topic 4
    Speed =total distance/time
    Velocity =displacement/time
    Acceleration =v-u/t
    Find distance under the speed time graph

  • Balanced force: When resultant force acting on an object is zero,the force acting on the object are balanced
    Unbalanced force: When resultant force acting on object is not zero,the force acting on the object is unbalanced
    F=ma
    Friction: The contact force that opposes or tends to oppose motion between surfaces in contact
    Forces: Either a push or pull that one object exerts on another object

  • Topic 4
    Speed =total distance/time
    Velocity =displacement/time
    Acceleration =v-u/t
    Find distance under the speed time graph

  • Acceleration= change in velocity/time taken
    Speed= distance travelled/ time taken
    Velocity= displacement/time taken
    Acceleration of free fall- object falls with constant acceleration
    Distance= area under speed time graph

  • Length=Metre M
    Mass= kilogram kg
    Time=second s
    Electric current= ampere A
    10^9 giga G
    10^6 mega M
    10^3 kilo k
    10^-1 deci D
    Metre rule and tape measure can be used for measurement of length
    Time can be measured using a pendulum
