PSLE Science: Cells and energy lesson plans

I have decided to make some changes to my Science lesson plans this year.

Science is suppose to be fun and experimental. I believe that is the sole reason I love Science and excel in this subject since primary school.

In the past, I will drill students on Science questions, asking them to remember certain formulas of answering techniques. It had yielded results. But I do felt it had deviate from my original idea of Science lesson and derive students of the joy of experimental Science. I always believe when students have the love for the subject, we do not need to worry about the results. Don’t worry, Its not going to be all play but no study. 🙂 I just do not want to be a examination preparation centre but a place where love of Science and Maths are instilled in the kids. I seriously believe this will get them further than we can imagine. I am so excited now as I blog about it now.

More time is needed to revise my Science lesson plans and incorporate some activities to help students learn this subject better. Yes! But I am excited about the harvest!

Cells: I went to read up several lesson plans available on the internet and finally found one activity I can do with “Singapore-exam-focused” students. Hee.

We are going to make cell brochures. They have to create a brochure together that would sell a trip through a plant cell. They have to include all the parts of the cell that they would visit on their trip and what that part would be doing. This activity will enable them to remember the cell organelles’ functions. 🙂

Time given for this activity :  15 minutes

Energy:

I prepared some cards on the products and reactants of  photosynthesis and respiration. Students will be given some cards and they have to identify with the cards they have are the reactants or products. This way, students can learn and remember the equations of photosynthesis and respiration too.

Time given for this activity :  10 minutes

For the rest of the lesson, I will be going through Science questions and answering techniques as usual. 🙂

I pray that God bless my lesson plans and my students will love and benefit from these lessons. 🙂
